The Diet Feminist

Dissecting the commercialisation of feminist identities in popular culture, The Diet Feminist will continuously consuming and regurgitate the iconic beverage. Diet Coke has been marketed exclusively to women throughout it's history, as a product that will enhance your beauty and magically melt away the fat. It's addictive elements, seduce the consumer and leave them wanting more, but reflect a shallow kind of feminism that is exclusive, empty, and hypocritical. Perpetuating a culture of endless consumerism, where women understand how harmful it can be, yet just want to go out and buy another bottle.

My art practice is created on the lands of the Gadigal and Wangal people. I acknowledge their ongoing spiritual and cultural ties to the waterways, land and sky since time immemorial. Sovereignty was never ceded. This always was and always will be, Aboriginal land.
